Find solutions to common Xbox 360 Hard Drive problems.

The console does not detect the hard drive

If your Xbox 360 console does not detect an attached hard drive, try the following:

  1. Turn your console off and then on again.
  2. Make sure your hard drive is installed correctly by removing and adding your hard drive back again.
  3. If you have another hard drive, try it with your console.
  4. Replace your hard drive. You can order a replacement Xbox 360 Hard Drive from the Console Doctor.
  5. If the above steps don’t resolve the problem, please feel free to use our professional repair service.

“No space available” error

Try the following:

  • Copy, move, or delete individual items

      1. From Xbox Home, go to Settings, and then select System.
      2. Select Storage.
      3. Select the storage device that contains the content you want to copy, move, or delete.

    Possible storage options:

    Hard Drive: Your console’s hard drive.

    Cloud Saved Games: Storage space on our Xbox LIVE servers. For information about this, see Store your saved games in the cloud.

    USB Storage Device: A USB storage device plugged into your console.

    Memory Unit: A memory unit plugged into your original Xbox 360 console.

    1. Select the type of content that you want to copy, move, or delete.

      2. Select Copy, Move, or Delete.
      3. Do one of the following:
      • If you’re copying or moving content, select the storage device that you want to copy or move the content to.
      • If you’re deleting content, confirm the deletion.

“The destination device is full” error

Try the following:

  • Copy, move, or delete individual items

“Can’t transfer item” error

Try the following:

  • Turn your console off and then on again.
  • Not all items are transferable. If you receive this message, you can’t transfer the item.
